Modern rail travel is impossible without cables. Signaling and telecommunications (LST) cables, traction power lines, and fiber optics ensure energy supply, control, and data communication across the rail network. As a pre-qualified partner of Deutsche Bahn, Klefenz handles the installation of these systems—from trenching and route construction to handover to LST and power engineering teams. With qualified personnel, our own road-rail vehicles, and construction planning optimized for track possession, we deliver projects efficiently, on schedule, and in compliance with DB regulations—supporting interlocking modernizations, ETCS, and the Digital Rail initiative.
Trackside cable construction requires specialized procedures, qualified personnel, and precise coordination with rail operations. Tight track possession windows, safety-critical clearance distances from overhead lines, and standardized grounding of conductive components define execution at every site. Klefenz relies on experienced railway construction specialists and our own road-rail vehicles, which enable rapid material transport along the track. Installation is carried out according to the applicable regulations and technical specifications of Deutsche Bahn. Additionally, the entire cable infrastructure is documented with georeferencing and handed over in the formats required by DB InfraGO and energy providers.
The digitalization of the rail network places high demands on planning, coordination, and execution. Klefenz brings valuable project experience to this field: as part of the "Digital Rail on the High Rhine" project, we carried out cable construction and infrastructure services for modern signaling and control technology. Through our collaboration with signal construction companies, construction supervisors, and other specialized trades, we understand the typical challenges of complex electronic interlocking (ESTW) and ETCS projects from practical experience. This know-how helps reduce interfaces, identify risks early, and reliably implement projects within the designated construction and track possession windows.
The greatest economic advantage in cable and conduit construction for rail infrastructure lies in bundling multiple trades within the same track possession window. This avoids additional line closures and significantly shortens construction times. Klefenz combines track infrastructure construction, cable trenching, route construction, and cable and conduit installation under one roof. For clients, this means: one point of contact, one construction management team, and a single handover—efficient, economical, and on schedule.
At Klefenz, cable construction and track construction work hand in hand. Professional responsibility for cable construction projects lies with Cüneyt Özer, Authorized Signatory and Head of the Cable Construction Department. With his many years of experience managing cable and fiber optic projects and his direct link to the track construction department, he is your primary contact—whether for individual routes during interlocking renewals or for longer track sections as part of the Digital Rail initiative. Send us your inquiry; we will assess feasibility and provide a binding quote.

Whether it is a demanding construction project or a professional perspective – Klefenz stands for experience, reliable collaboration and a clear commitment to quality. If you would like to realise a project or become part of our company, we look forward to speaking with you and taking the next step together.
