In-house raw materials, short transport distances

Anyone working in civil engineering and rail construction needs reliable supplies of ballast, gravel, and sand—often at short notice, in the right grain size, and exactly when needed. Klefenz has drawn the logical conclusion: since 2014, we have operated our own gravel pit in Rheinheim, located directly in the Waldshut district. This makes Klefenz independent of external suppliers, allows us to deliver to construction sites on short notice, and enables us to pass the cost benefits of our self-sufficiency on to our clients.

The Rheinheim gravel pit supplies various grades of gravel and sand used in road, civil engineering, and track construction. Extraction is carried out in accordance with all regulatory requirements, and processing takes place on-site. As a member of ISTE (the Baden-Württemberg Industrial Association for Stones and Earth), Klefenz is firmly established in the regional raw materials industry and operates according to the association's high standards.

Materials for our own projects and external customers

The gravel pit primarily supplies Klefenz GmbH's own construction sites—from gravel base layers for municipal roads to track ballast for sleeper replacements. In addition, external customers in the region can purchase gravel, sand, and crushed stone directly from the pit. The short transport routes from Rheinheim to the Waldshut district and the neighboring Upper Rhine region reduce both costs and CO₂ emissions compared to sourcing from distant gravel plants.
