Apprenticeship as a Civil Engineering Specialist

You are starting a career that literally lays the foundation — for roads, sewers, pipelines, and tracks. During your two-year apprenticeship as a civil engineering construction worker, you will learn the trade from the ground up on our construction sites.

Learn civil engineering. On real construction sites.

We are looking for apprentices to join us as civil engineering construction workers (m/f/d) starting September 1, 2026. Over the course of two years, you will learn what really matters in civil engineering: how to professionally construct roads, sewers, utility trenches, and track systems, how to operate construction machinery safely, and how to work reliably as part of a team on site. Once you have passed your final exams, you will have the opportunity to pursue further specialized training, such as becoming a road builder, sewer construction specialist, or track layer.

What you bring to the table

You have a secondary school leaving certificate [PLATZHALTER: Mindestabschluss bestätigen] and enjoy working outdoors — in sun, rain, and cold. Physical stamina, manual dexterity, and a basic understanding of mathematics (measurements, quantities, simple calculations) are essential. More important than grades to us are reliability, punctuality, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves. Proficiency in written and spoken German is required to ensure safety instructions and construction site procedures are understood.

What you can expect from us

  1. A career with substance: You will work on construction sites for Deutsche Bahn, local municipalities, and energy providers across Germany and Switzerland. At the end of the day, you can see exactly what you have built.
  2. Training with a future: The two-year apprenticeship as a civil engineering specialist provides the foundation for further qualification in your third year—as a road builder, sewer construction specialist, or track layer. We will support you every step of the way.
  3. A company that knows its craft: We have been active in civil engineering for over 60 years.
Civil engineering is a team effort — from day one

When you work in civil engineering, you are never alone on the job site. You will learn from colleagues who have been in the industry for years or even decades, gradually operate more machinery yourself, and take on your own tasks step by step. We aren't looking for finished professionals; we are looking for people who want to learn, are ready to roll up their sleeves, and understand that a properly built sewer or a professionally laid track is the result of many hands working together.

Why Klefenz

What sets us apart.

Three things set Klefenz apart from many other construction companies: we have been family-owned since 1961, we build with our own teams and our own materials, and we treat employees in a way that makes them stay. That is the short answer to why you should work at Klefenz.

Compensation & Compensation

Fair compensation.

We pay in accordance with the BRTV collective agreement – including all allowances, travel expenses and collectively agreed special payments provided for in the main construction industry. This includes Christmas and holiday pay, performance-based bonuses and a company car for selected positions.

What you can earn depends on your qualifications, experience and occupational field – we discuss specific salary ranges transparently in the first interview.

our locations

Hochrhein-verwurzelt, deutschlandweit im Einsatz.

With locations in Waldshut-Tiengen, Zwickau, Germersheim and Asperg, we are present at several sites while staying close to our projects. This allows us to combine regional roots with short distances, clear organisation and a working environment with perspective.

WORK WITH VARIETY

Here, you work on projects that last.

Today sleeper replacement during live rail operations, tomorrow fibre-optic expansion for a municipality, the day after signalling technology in the Deutsche Bahn network – at Klefenz, you work across a range of services that is hard to match in civil engineering. Eleven trades under one roof mean eleven ways to build something that lasts. This keeps the work interesting – and turns a job into a career.
